Jason Castro Performs “Hallelujah” on American Idol
The Hollywood Gossip — Amidst a sea of American Idol scandals involving David Hernandez and Danny Noriega, Jason Castro took the stage last night and reminded viewers what this competition was all about: Great singing. Check out his performance of the classic, slow, 1980s song “Hallelujah” right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2nRxKC-OyA How far do you think Jason Castro can advance on American Idol? American Idol 2008 - Top 8 Men Performances
Pop Critics — American Idol entered week three last night with a vengeance. There are 16 contestants remaining, and last night’s show was the Top 8 Men. How great were the performances last night? They were far above and beyond what the men gave us last week and much closer to what we expect from American Idol 2008. After watching last night’s show I actually think we could do away with the women’s portion and just continue the show with the men and I’d be perfectly happy. The one thing I feel I must comment on is the constant and completely incoherent ramblings of Paula Abdul. Over the last six seasons we’ve all grown accustomed to ...

"American Idol" - We're Liveblogging Tonight
TV with MeeVee — I'll be dishing the criticism out to the ladies as they tackle the songs of the 1980s on "American Idol" tonight. But first, a couple of picks from last night's performances by the men, so capably snarked by Aaron. He and I disagree about dreadhead Jason Castro's restrained take on Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." I thought Castro did a terrific job of finding a new route through a song so memorably recorded by Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright. Best of the night. My second favorite was David Cook's fuzz-guitar emo-rock version of Lionel Richie's bathetic "Hello." Now that's how we put a few balls on a song I ...

A List Of Things Thrown Five Minutes Ago — SONG ABOUT A SUNBEAM, SONG ABOUT A GIRL: There was a time -- some three months before tonight's results show, perhaps -- but was indeed a time when Robbie Carrico, Alexandréa Lushington and Colton Berry still walked the earth, and when we didn't feel so frequently let down by this year's competitors. Let's go back to that time, shall we? Here's David Cook, "Hello" ...

Echo Chamber: Leonard Cohen
Pitchfork: Latest News — Photo by Kathryn Yu "I was reading a review of a movie called Watchmen that uses it, and the reviewer said, 'Can we please have a moratorium on 'Hallelujah' in movies and television shows?' And I kind of feel the same way. I think it's a good song, but too many people sing it." -- Leonard Cohen, apparently not a big "American Idol" fan. (via The Guardian)

Jason Castro 'Hallelujah' Video and Lyrics
gravyandbiscuits.com 3/5/2008 — This is one of my favorite songs of all time. So, I didn’t think Jason Castro’s version of “Hallelujah” was a brilliant as Simon did, but it wasn’t terrible. It wasn’t Jeff Buckley, and it wasn’t Leonard Cohen. It wasn’t even Rufus Wainwright or Imogen Heap. But, I like this kid. If he wins American Idol he’s gonna buy a whole lotta weed.
