Last night on American Idol, the issue of which female put on the best performance was far from grey. In fact, it was black and white.

Following their performances this week, it might be safe to say that David Archuleta and Brooke White are the favorites on American Idol.
The former caused Paula Abdul to cry with his rendition of “Imagine” by John Lennon; while the latter showed how simple this competition can be: all you need is a stool, a guitar and a beautiful voice to turn Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” into a delightful, modern tune.

The American Idol Top 20 continued last night with the Top 10 women performances. The women underwhelmed me last week, but I have to admit I thought they did much better this week. I think perhaps the illness many of them were suffering from last week was a bigger factor than they let on during the broadcast.
This week there were three women who I felt performed better than the rest of the women contestants.

While most of the ladies faltered last night on Idol Brooke White was almost flawless. All three judges praised her for finding the right song and for her performance of Carly Simon’s ‘You’re So Vain.’
She sat on her stool and strummed her guitar and at the end all she could say was ‘thank you.’ I was amazed to see her thank the band, I don’t think I’ve seen many idols in the past do the same. Then again most of the contestants get a huge head after making it to the finals.
